Genteon Announces Issued US Patent for Label-Free SNP Analysis

Genteon, Inc. announced that it has exclusive rights to United States Patent No 6,762,018 issued today. The new method completely eliminates the need of dye labels for SNP genotyping.

Using the Genteon method, a DNA primer is annealed to amplified template DNA adjacent to the polymorphic site. An unlabeled dNTP complementary to the suspected SNP and a DNA polymerase are added to the reaction mixture. If the suspected SNP is present, the primer is extended by at least one nucleotide and the extension product is detected on the Capella 400™. The method eliminates dye labels, ddNTPs and expensive polymerases.

The result is a highly sensitive, accurate and cost-effective SNP genotyping method that can be easily multiplexed for greater throughput and economy. Since the samples are neither labeled nor chemically modified, they can be used directly in other experiments. Up to 3,840 genotypes can be performed on the Capella 400™ in one run of one hour.
