Genteon Sells Capella 400 System to Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for Key Plant Genomics Research Project

San Diego - May 7, 2003

Genteon, Inc. today announced that it has sold its Capella 400 genetic analysis system to the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, located in Beijing, China.  The Academy will use the Capella 400 in connection with its China Agricultural Plant Gene Resources and Gene Melioration Engineering Project.  Genteon’s Capella 400 was selected due to its superior high throughput and low operating cost.

The Capella 400, with Dynamic Fluorescence™ detection, is a fully automated, high-capacity (384 channel) capillary electrophoresis system that does not require the use of expensive fluorescent dyes. The Capella 400 greatly increases the speed and reduces the cost of genetic analysis, while providing versatility for an unprecedented range of applications.

“The Chinese market combines a high-growth economy, a strategic resolve to rapidly expand research facilities in the fields of human and plant genomics, as well as large and growing public expenditure budgets.  This makes China a natural and most attractive market for Genteon’s product line in the near future,” said Pascal Brandys, co-founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genteon.

“To further address this exciting Chinese market, Genteon has entered into a distribution agreement with Beijing Genosys Tech-Trading Company, a specialist in the field of life sciences research products, with offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu,” said Brandys.

Genteon, Inc., headquartered in San Diego, California, has developed a leading technology platform designed to address a wide variety of genetics and proteomics research applications.  Genteon’s revolutionary Dynamic Fluorescence detection technology, which eliminates the need for costly fluorescent dyes, allows the Capella 400 to address an unparalleled diversity of applications with high accuracy, high throughput and lowest operating cost.

The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences established on March 1, 1957, is not only a national agricultural research institution with multiple disciplines, but also an academic center for agricultural research in China. The Academy undertakes as its major tasks the applied research as well as applied basic research on agriculture and reinforces the developmental research to solve the key scientific problems with overall importance in national agricultural economy and to provide research achievements and services for the realization of agricultural modernization in China.
